The
creator of the "lou creuse" knife"
Alain Grangette
Art Cutler
Fascinated by art forms and style, Alain Grangette
has for several years tried to express style in the forms of painting,
sculpture and glass making. With a desire to create something without
boundaries he has found in cutlery an area where he can use complete
expression.
The "Creusois" evolved
in the field of cutlery when Alain Grangette forged his first blade
as a seven year-old in the fireplace of his family home. From this
point on he was destined to work in this field. Work progressed
from the initial heating in the forge, to pressure, moulding, cutting
out, sharpening to finally chasing and engraving…
Every artist has their own
mark. Alain Grangette accompanies his artistic impression with personally
chosen materials. He says "Each forge is a Pleasure. I learn
more and more about metal each time I work with it”.
Work has progressed between the age of the
fire and the laser.
AThe product has a particular similarity to the Samourai's blade,
being sturdy and slim but exceptionally sharp at the same time.
The work involved on each blade is enormous. For the artist himself,
to move onwards and upwards through the various methods such as
forging, soaking and chasing is a real travel in time.
Some art knives
Today, Alain Grangette makes knives to order, some are unique pieces,
but with his technical knowledge all blades are individual.
The quality of the alloy
steel, texture of the wood, detail, care and accuracy of the labour,
his knife signed by the Erenas' artistic forge seal, is really something
to be loved and appreciated.
"Lou Creuse", a dream
With the productions of the "Lou Creuse"
knife, Alain Grangette has made his dream in creating a knife that
represents his region.
Alain is thrilled that the Creusois people have welcomed this creation.
More than a knife, it is for them a real sign and form of identity
of their region.
